The NHL is Back!

Hockey is back! Hallelujah.

I thought ESPN and TNT did a fantastic job with the new broadcasts. A few awkward moments with the TNT crew during intermission, but it’s only day 1. There’s some great personalities in the mix that will continue to shine throughout the season I’d imagine.

Biz is fucking hilarious πŸ˜‚

I honestly just wanted to throw a couple top plays together from what I saw last night to share my excitement.

How do we not start with Alex Ovechkin becoming 5th on the all-time goals list?

It’s a shame. Shortened seasons over the last 2 years could play a role in Ovie reaching the top spot.

He’s 36 years old and needs to find the net 163 more times. It sounds crazy, but there are no real signs of slowing down.

2017-18: 49 goals in 82 games

2018-19: 51 goals in 81 games

2020-21: 24 goals in 45 games

2021-22: 2 goals in 1 game

It’s wild that we can legitimately have this conversation. No disrespect to the GOAT, but it’s clear how much harder it is to score now.

Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Jaromir Jagr, Brett Hull, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito….

It’s not ironic a ton of these players are from an older generation.

My point? We are currently watching the best goal scorer to ever live regardless if he breaks the record or not.

On to the Colorado Avalanche

Wow Bowen Byram has TWINE FLU!

Bad joke?

First off, there’s no better feeling than being a third-man high as a defenseman with all that time and space.

(I know from experience. I’m clearly looking far pad though)

Second, I put myself in his mind as the puck hit his stick.

I couldn’t imagine having an opportunity to snag my first goal in the show with an A+ scoring chance this golden.

He sure made the most of it.

You thought that was the only Avalanche highlight?

Why hello Jack Johnson, an unlikely source!

HUGE COLLISION IN EDMONTON

I’m not one of those fans that scream: I WANT FIGHTING AND TOUGHNESS BACK IN THE GAME!

I’m cool with rolling 4 lines of youth mixed with veterans, speed, and skill.

With that said, there’s clearly value in grit.

Tyler Myers threw a HEAVY hit on Duncan Keith last night.

I respect Keith for taking a hit to make the play, but I’m sure he’d probably do it differently if he could.

It’s so damn nice to have energy back in the buildings.

I can’t wait for Flyers hockey Friday night at the Wells Fargo Center!
