I’ll never forget the first day Nick Sirianni spoke to the media.
I was told it was unfair to react.
Nonsense!
This is the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s 1000% acceptable to have an opinion.
It was clear his tone wouldn’t matter as long as football games were won. Honestly I don’t even know if that’s completely true, at least for year one. Make the team make sense. Let’s see offensive flow.
Nerves aside, there’s no doubt his energy was LOUD and goofy.
My major takeaway was: Wow. Okay. How is this style going to work when adversity hits?
*Enter where we are today*
I always loved falling back on this answer: There’s so many veterans in this room that won’t allow ugliness to spiral out of control.
Last year it happened more due to injuries. They didn’t quit on Doug Pederson or anything
Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, Zach Ertz, Fletcher Cox.
Well now Graham, the emotional leader of the team, is out for the season.
It doesn’t scream Ertz is the same leader he once was. Maybe it has to do with his emotions towards the organization.
Prior to the season, Sirianni was saying all the right things about how his offense will look and how he will utilize players based on skillsets.
The execution has been miserable.
So now the Eagles are falling in the wrong direction and staring in the faces of Kansas City coming off 2 losses, Carolina, and Tampa Bay….
Uh oh.
The problem I have is how can the players truly believe in a coach if this continues? I can put last week’s coaching under Adam Gase level of coaching.
He tried explaining in his Wednesday Press Conference that an RPO is considered a run to them. Well it shouldn’t be because Miles Sanders isn’t touching the football and he’s one of your major playmakers! It’s ridiculous!
He also stated that the identity of the offense is about explosive plays. Has anyone seen this offense create those shots downfield organically through design consistently? There’s a difference between throwing a bomb downfield and the system creating those opportunities effectively.
Sirianni stressed fundamentals, high IQ football, and details all training camp long.
I’m watching the most penalized team in the league. Derek Barnett is not even prepared to play and is running late as hell to even get on the field. It’s totally sickening!
At what point are the players looking at the stall next to them saying… “Really with this guy?’ as Sirianni struts in with a “Giants Suck” T-shirt after failing multiple weeks in a row.
I do have to bring this up…. Every year there is normally a beat down within the schedule. We’ve seen this team get crushed in New Orleans recently and it was more of a hiccup than a defining game.
It was in 2018 and they lost 48-7 in week 11, but followed that up with a road playoff win against the Bears.
This very well could more of a bump in the road.
If I was betting man, I don’t necessarily think I’d put the mortgage down on it though. Jalen Hurts scares me, too, but that’s for another day. The concerns we had prior to him entering the league are on full display.
Back to the head coach though……
It was totally acceptable to be skeptical of his tone and demeanor.
His personality will now be tested.
How will the team handle Sirianni’s delivery if things get tough due to his inability to put together a proper game plan?
The next few games are not going to be any easier.
